Due to support from EPAct 2005, attention from FERC, regional ISOs and state utility commissions, as well as a growing consensus on the value of demand response, the industry is growing rapidly. The advent of new technologies and a changing regulatory environment has encouraged both entry and consolidation through mergers and acquisitions. In order to keep abreast of changes in this dynamic industry, Good Company Associates has developed a database of the Demand Response industry, which includes over 50 companies in this space. We have also developed and periodically update reports on Demand Response in CAISO, ERCOT, ISO-NE, NYISO, and PJM, which are regularly updated.
Competitive retail electric providers have begun to realize that partnering with their customers to develop demand-response capacity can provide a very attractive physical hedge against more volatile options. They are realizing that offering such collaborative services can help them to attract and retain important customers. There are a range of choices to provide such services, including a teaming relationship or partnership, outsourced services provisioning, or internal development of energy services offerings. We are working with clients to explore and develop each of these options.
